Introducción
La infancia es un período crítico en el que se establecen los cimientos para el desarrollo posterior.
Un desarrollo saludable en esta etapa puede tener un impacto signicativo en el bienestar y el
éxito en la vida adulta asegurando la prosperidad de la sociedad en su conjunto. Por esta razón
el ingreso de los niños a las aulas de educación inicial permite y estimula el desarrollo armónico
del ser humano, sin embargo, del total de matriculados en el 2019 solo el 7,26% corresponde
a educación inicial (Maldonado et al., 2019) y en el período 2021-2022, esta cifra se ubicó en
6.95%. Estos datos resaltan la importancia de investigar el desarrollo real de los niños ya que
esto impacta directamente en su rendimiento y por ende en el sistema escolar (Ministerio de
Educación, 2022).
Desde el punto de vista docente durante el Desarrollo Infantil podemos evidenciar y
supervisar la adquisición optima de destrezas y habilidades indispensables para el aprendizaje.
Al detectar alguna dicultad, la atención a la diversidad y la personalización del aprendizaje
permitirá al docente cumplir y aplicar estrategias de apoyo en el aula permitiendo a los niños
encontrar las vías más idóneas en la potencialización de sus destrezas (Frankenburg et al.,
1992).
Es así que la investigación se centra en determinar el desarrollo real de los niños de
los subniveles I y II de Quito considerando la utilización del test DENVER II avalado por
el Ministerio de Salud Pública del Ecuador. En el proceso de aplicación del test se podrá
obtener una visión de la realidad de la población estudiada, centrándose en áreas como la
personal social (relación del niño con su entorno), motor no (habilidades de concentración,
coordinación y destrezas manuales), lenguaje (adquisición, escucha y comunicación) y motor
grueso (coordinación corporal) (Frankenburg et al., 1992).
Uno de los factores por los que se podría obtener resultados poco favorables corresponde
a las secuelas que ha dejado la emergencia sanitaria por COVID-19, este suceso llevó a la
educación a una nueva fase en la que probablemente al inicio, pocos estábamos preparados
para enfrentar. La educación presencial fue suspendida para 138 mil millones de niños a nivel
mundial (I. Sánchez, 2021), lo que limitó la interacción en el desarrollo de áreas como la social.
En Ecuador, el 10,35% de los niños mostraron retrasos leves y signicativos en las áreas motoras
(I. Sánchez, 2021) lo que pone en evidencia la necesidad de fortalecer la educación inicial en
Ecuador como parte de la política pública de protección infantil (Lizondo et al., 2021).
Es fundamental comprender que el desarrollo infantil tiene un impacto económico
signicativo en un país. La inversión en el cuidado de la infancia estimula una mayor inversión
económica y social en la nación ya que promueven un desarrollo apropiado y continuo, que
comienza durante la gestación y perdura a lo largo de la vida de la persona, permitiendo a los
niños moldear su identidad, autonomía, sentido colectivo, desarrollo social y la realización de
sus capacidades en áreas cognitivas, físicas, sociales, emocionales y sexuales (Ministerio de
Educación, 2020) (Santi-León, 2019).
Durante la infancia, aproximadamente el 80% del crecimiento cerebral ocurre antes de
los tres años, siendo determinante para el desarrollo en distintos aspectos como alimentación,
educación, aspectos emocionales, sociales y cognitivos. Lamentablemente, en países con
ingresos medianos a bajos, existen aproximadamente 250 millones de niños menores de 5 años
