This article explores the role of Afro-Ecuadorian social folklore as a central element for tourism development in the community of Chota, located in the Chota Valley, Ecuador. Through a qualitative, ethnographic approach, representative cultural manifestations were identified, such as bomba music, mocha bands, as well as dances, family rituals, and patron festivities—living expressions of identity and resistance. Interviews with elder community members and Afro-descendant professionals revealed that these traditions not only preserve collective memory, but also offer strategic opportunities to promote cultural tourism from a sustainable and community-based perspective. The results highlight the urgent need to rescue, value, and disseminate Afro cultural heritage, as well as implement concrete proposals like an informative tourist guide. The study concludes that cultural identity can become a legitimate driver of local development if it is recognized, managed, and strengthened from within the community itself.
